Chris Baloyi Work Experience: Chris has extensive work
experience in the Financial Services Industry. He gained most of
his experience in the Banking Sector in areas such as Project
Finance, Corporate Finance, Credit Risk and Risk Management. His
transaction track record includes high level
projects/transactions in the ICT, Mining, Property Finance,
Energy, Infrastructure, and Tourism sectors. Chris has worked on
Project Finance transactions as Lead Transactor both in South
Africa and the broader African region and has worked in both the
Commercial Banking Sector within the Corporate and Investment divisions
(including Investec Bank, Standard Bank and Absa) and the
Development Finance environments. This broad experience has
helped Chris in understanding the needs and challenges of
clients and investors/financiers from the private as well as the
public sectors.
Prior to joining the Banking Sector Chris worked as an Insurance
Sales Consultant at Old Mutual Direct in Cape Town for two
years, and thereafter as an Investment Consultant for Gensec
Asset Management in Cape (now known as Sanlam Investment
Management) for a year, all while he was completing his
undergraduate studies.
Chris has a keen passion for entrepreneurship and project
development. His strength lies in project management, performing
financial models and valuations, as well as in
project/transaction structuring, preparation, packaging and
implementation.
Qualifications: Chris obtained his Bachelours’ degree (B
Com) from the University of Cape Town in 1999. He then enrolled
for a B Com (Honors) degree with the University of Natal, Durban
(Distance Learning Programme) during 2000/2001 while serving
articles at Investec Bank. In February and November 2002 he sat
for the Qualifying Examination and the Final Qualifying
Examination of the South African Institute of Chartered
Accountants, passing both exams on first attempt and qualifying
as a Chartered Accountant/CA (SA). He is a registered member of
the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants. During the
period 2004 to 2006 Chris enrolled for a Masters Degree in
Financial Management from the University of Johannesburg. He
completed research work for a thesis entitled “Investigating the
Availability of Capital for New Venture Creation in South
Africa” which included interviews with individuals and
organizations involved in New Venture Funding, including the
IDC, Khula Enterprise Finance, HBD Venture Capital, the South
African Venture Capital Association (SAVCA) to name a few. It
was through this research that Chris’ passion for project
development and new venture funding was ignited.
